5 Vital Tips for Transforming Blog Posts into eBooks

Struggling to build your content for marketing purposes? Worried that you’ll go over budget if you outsource the creation of collateral? You’re not alone. Too many business owners and decision makers find themselves in similar situations. It doesn’t have to be that way, though. In fact, you might be sitting on a veritable goldmine of existing content that can be repurposed for another use. Turning your blog posts into an eBook is an excellent way to make your content pull double duty. However, there are several things you’ll need to know here.

Pick a Focus for Your eBook

What’s the point of the eBook? It should be more than just a collection of blog posts, and it should tie in with your business while offering value to your readers. You should also take a look at the market to see if there are too many competing books, particularly if you plan to sell through Amazon or another online bookseller.

One Large or Several Small Books?

Your combined blog posts will most likely allow you to create a single large eBook. On the other hand, you might consider breaking what would be a very large book into several different smaller ones. This can be particularly valuable for use with an email campaign, or as downloadable content and free giveaways on your website.

Check the Content Flow

It can be tempting to just toss all your blog posts into book form in the order they were written. However, that would be a mistake. Chances are good that your posts jump around more than a little bit, and that doesn’t translate well into a cohesive, positive reading experience for potential customers. Take the time to comb through your posts. Reorder them, weed out any that don’t tie in with the point of the book, and ensure that you’re delivering a worthwhile product to your readers.

Find Missing Content

Once you’ve established the focus of your eBook and weeded through your blog posts, you can start collating them into some sort of order. You’ll most likely find that there are topics that haven’t been covered but that should be. Take the time to create the missing content to ensure that you provide your readers with the most complete book possible.

Rewrite When Needed

While you probably won’t need to do a lot of rewriting, you will need to pare down some of your blog posts. You’ll need to cut out anything that relates to a specific event at a specific time. For example, anything along the lines of, “Yesterday, we rolled out our new program…” It dates the content, but also shows that the eBook was cobbled together from other material, which might leave a bad taste in some readers’ mouths.

When everything is said and done, you should end up with at least one eBook that you can easily add to your content marketing efforts without dramatically increasing your costs, or the time spent creating content.
